I recently bought a new mobile phone and as soon as i got it i wanted to spice it up a little by completely customising it buy adding a ringtone, wallpaper, screensaver etc. I visit a website called Surgery of Sound and to my astonishment, they had Ringtones under 4 different sections;

Keypress Ringtones
Monophonic Ringtones
Polyphonic Ringtones
True Tone Ringtones

This was completely new to me, i thought that a ringtone was a ringtone, i was completely oblivious to what format i needed. So i done a little research and i found that Keypress Ringtones are composer codes of numbers that you press on your keypad to make different notes to create a keypress ringtones. Monophonic Ringtones are ringtones that are played only one note at a time, just like a basic midi file. Polyphonic Ringtones are ringtones that can play notes simultaneously to create a beat and a tune at the same time sort of thing, a more advanced multi-tune midi. True Tone Ringtones are ringtones that play exactly like MP3's, so you could basically use a track you have download from say iTunes and send it via Bluetooth from your computer to your bluetooth enabled mobile phone.

I checked Surgery of Sounds compatability list and came to the conclusion that i could take true tone ringtones. I can remember 4 years ago i had a basic Nokia 3310 and it could only handle the 1 mono ringtone, to hear my phone blast out Eagles - Hotel California everytime my phone run was brilliant. The way cell phones have developed over the past few years is a great example of what technology is capable off. Next year hopefully i will have a 3G mobile phone and i will be able to watch my favourite soaps while on the bus.
